Africa’s greatest boxer, Azumah Nelson, says Joseph Agbeko can retain his IBF title if he is the aggressor in his upcoming defence against Abner Mares.
Should Agbeko win this bout, he will also annex the WBC silver title which is currently held by Mares, who is undefeated in 21 bouts.
Agbeko who turned 31 on March 22, will be staging his first defence of the title since reclaiming it from Columbian, Yohnny Perez in December last year.
Azumah Nelson fought a number of Mexican opponents during his illustrious career and says Agbeko must punch.
“I have always said that Agbeko is a gifted boxer; he is a talented boxer; he knows what he is supposed to do in the ring; he has been there before; he has won before and he has lost before so he knows the difference,” Azumah said.
He said Mexican boxers are heavy punchers and Agbeko must punch hard to prevail over his opponent.
