The Ghana Police Service has warned that they will disperse crowds if they had reasonable grounds to believe that a breach of peace might occur in the upcoming three-day demonstration by the Concerned Citizens Against Galamsey.
The protest, set to take place from October 3 to 5, 2024, will be a procession from Okponglo, Legon, to Independence Square in Accra.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, October 2, the Police emphasised their responsibility under the Public Order Act to take all reasonable measures to ensure a smooth and peaceful demonstration.
It said that the organisers were reminded of the Police's authority to intervene if there are signs of a potential breach of peace during the event.
The Police further stated that they would assist in the proper conduct of the demonstration by directing routes to avoid obstruction of pedestrian or vehicular traffic.
