Jeffery Oppong Peprah James, Chief Executive Officer of VW Ghana and President of the Automobile Association of Ghana, has described the prospects of the automobile industry as positive.
According to him, the country's growing economy and a stable political environment has been key to attracting foreign investments.
Speaking to Joy Business at the launch of VW's new Amarok car in Ghana, he explained that, despite some challenges, he is of the view that assembling of cars locally is supporting the sector.
"It's been a very good journey in Ghana and we know the years ahead will be very good for this industry. We have a lot of cars coming in every year so if we continue to have local assembling plants here in Ghana, we can continue to provide quality cars here in Ghana".
"The sector has been providing jobs for a lot of Ghanaians and will continue to support the Ghanaian economy. We now know Ghana’s production industry has received proper aid from the local authorities, which has enabled it to emerge as one of the 40 quickest-growing commercial productions globally”, he pointed out.
The growth of the automobile industry in Ghana presents an opportunity for companies that manufacture and supply auto parts. As the local production of vehicles increases, the demand for locally produced auto parts will be expected to increase.
The growth of electric vehicles in Ghana is also still in its early stages, with limited adoption and infrastructure. However, there are signs of increasing interest in electric vehicles in the country.
