A former Employment and Social Welfare Minister, Austin Gamey, has expressed strong confidence in the ability of Dr Cassiel Ato Forson to excel as Finance Minister.
Speaking in an interview on Joy News’ Upfront, he lauded the Majority Leader in Parliament’s preparedness for the challenges of the role, stressing his adaptability, knowledge, and collaborative approach.
“Ato is familiar and capable of adjusting and adapting to the demands and imperative requirements of technology use today. I do not doubt that he will be adding extraordinary value to the demands of the people.”
Mr Gamey highlighted the pivotal role of the Ministry of Finance as a coordinating body that ensures equitable allocation of resources across the country.
He commended Dr Ato Forson’s inclusive approach and capacity to work seamlessly with other government ministries.
“Regardless of how people see it, the Ministry of Finance is the one that works together with its colleagues in an inclusive approach to ensure the allocation of finance for a balanced kind of development of the nation,” Mr Gamey explained.
“Ato is very capable of doing just that, and I have no reason whatsoever to doubt him.”
The former minister highlighted the importance of listening and collaboration in a role as sensitive as Finance Minister, urging Dr Ato Forson to prioritise these qualities.
“He needs to ensure that the listening skills required by everybody who occupies such a sensitive office are in place.
"He should be open to listening to people and ensuring he balances the requirements of all stakeholders in this economy,” Austin Gamey stated.
He also pointed out that Dr Ato Forson’s youth and expertise position him well for success.
“At 46, he really comes with a wealth of knowledge, understanding, and the skill required to perform. He’s in his prime, and he will be adding value to what the President has in mind by appointing him to this office.”
The endorsement extended beyond Forson’s capabilities to acknowledge the conducive environment created by President Mahama.
“Particularly so when he has a President who is a balanced person himself, Ato has everything at his disposal to succeed,” Mr Gamey remarked.
With his background and the support of a forward-thinking administration, he expressed confidence that Dr Ato Forson will meet the expectations of the Ghanaian people.
“He’s not going to be working outside the confines of the Constitution and the laws of Ghana, conventions, and best practices,” Mr Gamey concluded.
“I believe he will bring extraordinary value to the role.”
