The development of football at Tafo/Pankrono constituency in the Ashanti Region has received massive boost following the commissioning of an astroturf by the Municipal assembly.
The facility funded by the Zongo Development Fund has transformed the then sakasaka park into a standard football field expected to change the face of football in the area.
Municipal Chief Executive, Fred Obeng Owusu says the facility would be put to good use while the assembly gives priority to the maintenance of the facility.
Mr. Owusu also disclosed to JoyNews' Mohammed-Nurudeen that stakeholders would set up a committee to supervise the management of the facility.
The new sports facility is expected to nurture young talents like Louis Agyemang, Touriq Jibril, Doogo Moro, Osei Kuffour and Anthony Yeboah in the Municipality.
It is named after the former Member of Parliament, Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei in recognition of his contribution to football.
Hundreds of sports fans, including children, witnessed the commissioning of the football pitch which was attended by dignitaries including Chief of Tafo, Nana Agyen Frimpong Ababio and assembly members.
Mr. Owusu, says the facility would serve as a motivation for the youth who have passion for football to develop their talents to compete at the top level.
Additionally he said football matches that would be organised on the pitch would promote unity among the people.
The MCE commended the former and current MPs, the Tafo Chief as well as the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. Simon Osei Mensah for their various roles in making the project a success.
Former Member of parliament, Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei called on the youth to help manage the pitch so it has a longer life span to build talents and great footballers.
