Ashanti Gold Chief Executive Emmanuel Frimpong insists age is just a number as he is focused on making the former Ghanaian champions one of the biggest in Africa.

Frimpong was appointed in May by club President Dr Kwaku Frimpong, who happens to be his father. The 27-year-old is the leader of a five member management committee.

The decision came as a surprise to many. Taking into consideration the club’s history, they expected an experienced person to be handed the job.

But, Frimpong is determined to prove his doubters wrong by getting Ashgold to the level where they can rub shoulders with the big boys on the continent.

“We want to make Ashgold one of the biggest clubs in Africa, but not only in Ghana,” Frimpong is reported to have told Fox FM.

He added; “age is just a number, but it is a matter of communication and commitment.”

After Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, it is said that AshGold have the third biggest fanbase in Ghana. Frimpong has said that he will work closely with the supporters.

“A club cannot be built without supporters, it is all about the relationship between the management and the supporters.”

He also spoke on the club’s participation in Africa next season. The Miners have been selected by Ghana Football Association (GFA) to represent the country in Caf Confederation Cup after the season was cancelled.

The announcement made barely a two weeks ago but Frimpong revealed they have started planning for the competition.

“Ashgold have a budget of $500,000 for Africa which is subject to be increased as we progress in the course of the competition”.

Only Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak have won more league titles than Ashanti Gold.

They have been crowned Ghanaian champions four times with their recent success coming in 2015. In 1997, they reached the Caf Champions League final.
