The Ashanti Regional Command says it will intensify efforts to ensure that residents adhere to the restriction on public gathering and the safety protocols, particularly social distancing.
The Region’s Public Affairs Officer, Godwin Ahianyo, in a statement indicated that the police have observed that residents have been flouting the rules.
He warned that people who are caught defying the restriction on public gathering and social distancing will be arrested and dealt with in accordance with the law.
“As we approach a long weekend, the Command wishes to remind the good people of our region that the suspension on public gathering covers, coferences, funerals, festivals, political rallies and sporting events, church and mosque gathering.”
Supt Ahianyo also advised commercial drivers and bus station operators to ensure that social distancing is observed in their vehicles.
He added that passengers should always wear their nose masks throughout their journeys.
“Wearing nose masks is very essential around this period, since we are not in in normal times, therefore, people need to cultivate the habit of wearing to stay safe.”
He further urged residents to report any incidence of mass gatherings to the police since it is illegal in the mean time.
Wishing residents a Happy May Day, he advised them to upload the WHO protocols like hand washing to help combat the spread of Covid-19.
