A 25-year-old man, Richmond Owusu Kankam, has been tragically found dead under mysterious circumstances in Ahwiaa, a suburb of the Kwabre East Municipality in the Ashanti Region.
His lifeless body was discovered on the roadside near the Ahwiaa RC School on the morning of Sunday, 6th April 2025, igniting tensions and sorrow within the local community.
The late Richmond, who resided with his grandmother in Mamponteng, was last seen on Friday when he reportedly left home to run errands at the market.
His mother, Nana Yaa, recounted receiving a distressing phone call later that day.
“One of my siblings in Accra called to ask if I had heard that Rich had been killed,” she said.
Alarmed, she visited his workplace only to find it shut, with no sign of his presence.
In a desperate bid to find her son, Nana Yaa visited the Mamponteng station and various locations he was known to frequent.
Her efforts yielded no results, prompting her to lodge a report with the Mamponteng Police.
“They told me he might have spent the night at his girlfriend’s house,” she added, expressing frustration with the lack of urgency.
The following day, determined to continue her search, she set out once more. While en route in a Pragya (tricycle), the rider mentioned that a body had been found nearby. Driven by a mother’s instinct, she went to the location and was devastated to identify the deceased as her son.
The tragic discovery has left the community in shock, with residents demanding swift action and thorough investigations into the circumstances surrounding Richmond’s death.
Police are yet to release an official statement on the case.
