The Ashanti Regional Council of Zongo Chiefs has congratulated President John Agyekum Kufuor on his election as the new Africa Union (AU) Chairman.
They said the election of President Kufuor, whom they described as a man of peace and humility will help to bring total peace to the war-torn countries in the continent during his term of office.
The congratulatory message came after a meeting to elect new executive in Kumasi at the weekend.
Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim was re-elected President of the Council. Others elected unopposed are Alhaji Abdulai Issaka II as first vice-President, Alhaji Azumah Ndegu, General Secretary, Alhaji Usman Salifu Tanko, Treasurer and Alhaji Karim Alhassan, Financial Secretary.
Alhaji Abdul Mumin Haroun, Chief Imam of Ashanti, who swore the executive into office told them to be more committed and dedicated to the task entrusted to them and to work to strengthen the peace and unity among Muslims in the region.
Chief Ibrahim appealed to Muslims in the region to co-operate with their community chiefs, religious leaders and elders.
