Ashaiman Circuit court presided over by Simon Gaga has remanded six persons who are being held in connection with the murder of trooper Imoro Sherrif to police custody.
The accused, Samuel Tetteh, Abubakar Sadick, Ibrahim Rakib, Safianu Musah, Yussif Mohammed and Abdul Gafaru Abdul Karim are to reappear before the court on March 27.
Samuel Tetteh and Abubakar Sadick who are the prime suspects have pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit crime and robbery, contrary to sections 23(1) and 149 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 [Act 29].
The four other accused persons, Ibrahim Rakib, Safianu Musah, Yussif Mohammed and Abdul Gafaru Abdul Karim have been charged with dishonestly receiving contrary to section 146 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29).
The four, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Defence counsel, Abdul Fatawu Alhassan was unsuccessful in his bail application for his clients, Rakib, Safianu, Yussif and Gafaru.
Prosecutor, Supt. Sylvester Asare who is Director, Legal at the CID headquarters argued that due to the nature of the case, the suspects residing in a kiosk could not be granted bail.
Presenting the facts to the court, the prosecutor told the court that on March 4, 2023, police received information that a male adult had been found lying dead at Taifa, a suburb of Ashiaman in the Greater Accra Region.
Police proceeded to the scene where they confirmed the incident. At the crime scene, the police team retrieved a number of items including a knife with blood stains on it and a backpack.
He said in the backpack, they found 1 Samsung tablet, 1 Apple laptop, a military uniform with the name tag “Imoro", 8 other items of clothing, as well as a Ghana card and a Health insurance card bearing the name Imoro Sherrif.
The body of the deceased was then conveyed to a hospital for preservation and autopsy.
Further checks revealed that the deceased was stationed at the 3rd Infantry Battalion in Sunyani.
Police investigations revealed that on March 3, the deceased had visited a female friend at Ashaiman Newtown at about 10:30 pm and had left the place at about 01:30 am, on March 4, 2023.
He said the deceased who was on his way home was attacked by Samuel Tetteh and Abubakar Sadick at Taifa and made away with his iPhone.
The accused then sold the phone to Ibrahim Rakib for GH¢300 who subsequently sold the phone to Safianu Musah for GH¢350.
The prosecution added that the latter claimed to have sold it to Yussif Mohammed and Abdul Karim.
The court has remanded the accused persons to enable the police to carry on with their investigations.
