The Deputy Minister for the Interior, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, has confirmed that Ashaiman and Adenta will no longer be one municipal assembly.
The government on Monday announced the separation after the President, Mr J.A. Kufuor replaced the Executive Instrument (EI) establishing the Adenta Assembly with another one creating the Ashaiman Munici¬pal Assembly and the Adenta Municipal Assembly.
The Legislative Instrument (LI) establishing the new metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies has also been withdrawn from Parliament.
The fusion of Ashaiman and Adenta under one assembly was roundly rejected by Ashaiman, which argued that it qualified for a municipality of its own.
Mr. Kofi Jumah, who spoke on Joy FMs Super Morning Show on Tuesday, said that the decision by the president was taken in consultation with the Electoral Commission.
President Kufuor last in November LI created 25 new districts, three municipalities and upgrad¬ed 26 existing districts to munici¬palities while Tema and Cape Coast were elevated to the status of metropolitan assemblies.
