A combined team of Asem and Fante New Town suburbs has emerged winner of the 2016 Nhyira FM-Genecure 4-4-2 Soccer Gala played in Kumasi.
They beat Bantama 3-2 on penalties after the two sides had settled for a nerve-racking goalless draw in regulation time of the finals played on Thursday before a huge crowd at the Asem Cluster of Schools Park.
The match was officiated by Ghana Premiership referee, Ernest Baafi, the man who was in charge of the Premier League game between Hearts of Oak and Wa All Stars a couple of weeks ago.
The game started with Bantama dominating play and dictating the pace in the early exchanges but they could not convert the numerous chances that fell to them.
Asem- Fante Newtown settled very well and created some decent chances which they also failed to convert. Try as they did, both teams drew blank in terms of finding the net.
The game maintained its virginity till the final whistle, and had to be decided on penalties.
On their way to glory, the newly-crowned champions beat Tech by two goals to one, went on to account for Ahinsan by three goals to one in the quarter- finals before dealing a one-nil blow to Adum at the semi -final stage.
For their prize, Asem-Fante New Town received a giant trophy, Gh¢2,000.000 cash and medals for medals for all players, presented by General Manager of Multimedia Group, Kumasi, Jim Aglah .
