Legal advisor to the Okyehene and lawyer to the Akyem Kingdom, Kwame Gyan, has discounted claims of enmity between Okyenman and Asanteman.
He said the two Kingdoms are bonded by a common heritage and tradition and as such there can be no animosity between the two kingdoms as speculated in certain circles.
Lawyer Kwame Gyan made this assertion in an interview with Ekourba Gyasi on Adom Dwaso Nsem on Monday ahead of the impending launching of a book, The Royal Akyem Kingdom, discussion of which subject is alleged to be stretching a perceived Ashanti and Akyem tension to its elastic limit.
According the Okyeman legal counsel, the Okyehene is much concerned about the issue which is gaining currency and cannot be left unanswered.
He said those people alluding to that assertion know for a fact that there is no conflict between Ashantis and Akyems but are only doing so to score political points.
“If people care to know they should find out and they will realize that the current Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu is married to an Akyem, and it goes on to show the level of cordiality between the two royal kingdoms” he noted.
In explaining the book The Royal Akyem Kingdom Lawyer Gyan said the book is compiled to showcase the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area and its environs to enlighten its readers about the rich history and culture of the Kingdom, as well as the ancestral lineage of the kings who have ruled Okyeman.
He added that the book also highlights the tourist attraction sites in Okyeman, its economic resources, profiles and endeavours of the various district assemblies and the investment opportunities available.
“The Royal Akyem Kingdom, Ghana talks about Akyem Abuakwa’s land management systems and some of the new policies introduced by the current monarch, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin II, since his ascension to the throne nearly a decade ago,” he emphasized.
