The death is reported at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) of Barima Kwabena Opoku, brother of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene and son of Nana Afua Kobi Serwah Ampem, Asantehemaa.
A statement from the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi said Barima Opoku, aged 80, died on Wednesday, August 15.
It said burial and funeral rites would be announced later.
