Nana Wiafe Akenten II, Paramount chief of the Offinso Traditional Area has commended Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, for his immense contribution towards promoting peace in the country and the world as a whole.
He said the numerous visits of the Asantehene outside the country and the desire of most leaders to visit the country to strengthen bilateral and multilateral relations as well as foster unity among Ghanaians and the outside world was an ample testimony of his love for peace.
Nana Akenten made the commendation when a delegation of the Anglican Bishops’ Conference paid a courtesy call on the Otumfuo Osei Tutu, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
It was among others to strengthen the cordial relationship between the Bishops and the Asanteman Council.
Nana Akenten urged the people to support the good deeds of the Asantehene as a good ambassador in Africa.
He appealed to the Bishops to pray for the peace of the nation as it will be celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
On behalf of the Asantehene, Nana Akenten thanked the Bishops for the visit and expressed the hope that the bond of unity and co-operation between Bishops and the Asantehene would be sustained.
The Right-Reverend Daniel Yinka-Sarfo, Anglican Bishop of Kumasi, led the 15-member delegation to the Palace.
He said the Bishops who were currently attending a five-day retreat involving fasting and praying for the nation, decided to interact with the Asantehene.
The Bishops prayed for the Asantehene for God to strengthen him to enable him rule the Asante Kingdom.
The Bishops included the Most Reverend Dr Justice Ofei Akrofi, Head of the Anglican Church in West Africa, The Right-Reverend Francis Quarshie, Bishop of Koforidua and the Right-Reverend Thomas Ampah Briant, Bishop of Sunyani.
