The Black Stars last won a major silverware at the 1982 finals in Libya-which happened to be a fourth continental title.
Since then it has been a long chain of heartbreaks for the Ghanaian fan after losing the 1992 and 2010 finals to Ivory Coast and Egypt respectively.
In 2008, Ghana hosted the tournament but settled for bronze after losing to Cameroon in the semi-final.
Ghana have reached the semi-final stage of the last two editions of the Nations Cup finals in Gabon and Equatorial and South Africa.
Gyan took over the Black Stars captaincy in 2012 and for his elder brother Baffour, the UAE-based player is determined to end the long wait for a title.
“We have been through a lot in recent times. Gyan is a very focused individual and he listens to me lot and I will always praise him for his mental toughness,” Baffour, a former Slovan Liberec player told Africanfootball.com
“One of his prayers is to be able to win the AFCON with the Black Stars and am sure God will grant him that soon.
“He enjoys playing his football and he always makes his football do the talking for him and I feel that is the most important thing.”
Gyan recently signed a new for year deal with his club Al Ain that will keep him in the Arab Peninsula and dash all rumors linking him to clubs in Europe.
