Tamale Central MP, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, has accused the Executive of influencing some actions of the Police and the Majority Caucus in Parliament in the matter involving Madina MP, Francis-Xavier Sosu.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP is livid that the Majority Caucus has turned against the Speaker, calling for the release of Francis-Xavier Sosu to face prosecution.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Majority Caucus alleged that the Speaker was setting a bad precedent.

"The Majority Leadership views the foregoing response by Speaker Bagbin as a troubling departure from how his predecessors handled such requests," part of the statement reads.

But Murtala Muhammed says the sudden turn of events is a clear indication of an interference from the government.

He claims that the ultimate target is to have the leader of the NDC, John Mahama, arrested.

"What has suddenly changed? It's because they have been called to the Flagstaff House. The Executive is not just manipulating the Caucus, but even the Police.

"There is a design by this government, and the agenda is that arrest Sosu and, by extension, arrest former President Mahama," he told JoyNews' Kwesi Wilson Parker.

Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed also used the platform to caution the government against any attempt to frustrate the NDC ahead of the 2024 polls.

"They will meet the resistance they have never anticipated. The agenda is to attack the NDC, arrest some bigwigs of the party, and the ultimate is arrest former President John Mahama, find something to tie him so that he would be barred from contesting in the 2024 election," he claimed

Meanwhile, Francis-Xavier Sosu is expected to appear in court on November 8 to answer charges filed against him by the Police.

These charges include; causing damage to public property during a protest, he led in his constituency on October 25.

The Police filed the suit after the MP refused to honour an invitation to be questioned over some unlawful actions that characterized the October 25 demonstration.
