A 25-year-old driver, Osei Gideon, has sustained injuries after he was shot by two armed robbers at the entrance of Wulugu Senior High School in the West Mamprusi municipality of the North East region.
The victim had reportedly approached the scene of an ongoing robbery on a fellow driver, Asiedu Peter, who rode in a Kia Rhino truck with registration number AC- 1192-20, two women, and a conductor on Saturday, January 2, between 9 and 10 am.
They were en route to Burkina Faso from Kumasi to purchase tomatoes when they were crossed by the robbers who immediately opened fire at them.
A cash amount of GH¢40,000 and other personal effects were stolen from them.
Police at the crime scene say investigations thus far show that both robbers did not block the road, but stood on the first speed ramp close to the Wulugu SHS, with an unregistered Hoajue motorbike.
Osei Gideon was shot in the left leg and is currently responding to treatment at the emergency ward of the Walewale Government Hospital.
No arrests have been made at the moment.
