Armed Forces Secondary Technical School and Sacred Hearts Girls Institute made history by lifting the trophy in the grand final of the 2009 Sprite Ball Basketball Championship in their respective divisions at the El-Wak Stadium over the weekend.
Armed Forces Secondary Technical emerged champions in the male division whilst Sacred Heart Girls, roared loudest in the female division.
The Armed Forces team who were third place finishers in the Greater Accra Region qualifiers eased past Pope John Senior High School, Opoku Ware School and Mfanstipim enroute to the final, where they defeated the Volta Regional champions, Keta Senior High School 19-11.
Koforidua Secondary Technical School (K.S.T.S) won the bronze by beating Opoku Ware Senior High School in the third place match.
In the female event, defending champions Wesley Girls High School settled for bronze whilst Insaaniya Senior High School placed fourth.
The two-day event which ended on Saturday, December 19 drew participation from forty-four Senior High schools from six regions; Greater Accra, Eastern, Western, Volta, Ashanti and Central Regions.
The final was graced by King Tackie Tawiah III - Ga Mantse, Nii Nortey Duah - Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports and David Addo Ashong - Chairman of the Ghana Basketball Association among other dignitaries.
The event was initiative of Rite Multimedia and sponsored by Sprite with partners including Indomie Noodles, EFPAC, Latex Foam, Ink It, TV Africa, Joy FM, 90 Minutes Newspaper, Ghana News Agency, Rock FM and Radio Xtacy.
