Students studying Architecture have been urged to explore other areas in the built environment to reduce graduate unemployment.
The principal architect of Spektra Global, William Evans Halm, believes architects can use their personal gifts to create wealth.
“Most architects have love for the job. Some architects have a personal gift for construction, and they can become contractors.
“Because the training is a general one, most go in for general practice. However, they should open their eyes to see there are more opportunities in the field.
“By doing so, they can create more jobs in the field,” he said.
Mr Evans Halm was speaking at a seminar for the Architecture Students Association of Ghana at the KNUST in Kumasi.
Spektra Global Limited are into architectural design, interior design, construction and real estate.
The students were exposed to employment opportunities available in these areas.
The Architecture Students Association has been organizing these seminars annually to broaden members’ scope to face the job market.
President of the Association, Henry Kofi Dansu, said the seminar has successfully addressed students' concerns.
“You can’t do this and find yourself elsewhere. So when you identify yourself, you can go outside, and so quickly you’ll find a job,” he said.
