Ghana FA Executive Committee member Randy Abbey says the obsession of appointing a high profile coach for the Black Stars will in no way guarantee success.
The GFA is still in the process of appointing a substantive replacement for Kwesi Appiah having interviewed three coaches.
Michel Pont, Juan Ignacio Jiminenz and Avram Grant have all been interviewed for the vacant job.
There are however rumours that the huge financial demands made by the coaches – especially Avram Grant – is delaying the appointment.
Many Ghanaians are clamouring for the appointment of a high profile coach to manage the Black Stars.
These high profile coaches however come with a big budget and in most cases come with their own technical staff which also inflates the cost – one which the Ghana FA is certainly not in the position shoulder.
Ghana FA Ex.Co member Randy Abbey wants the clamour for a high profile coach toned down since it does not guarantee success.
“The fact that go for such a coach [of low pedigree] does not guarantee you failure and the fact that you go for one with such a profile does not also guarantee you success,” he told an Accra-based radio station
“And therefore the profile of the coach is not absolute. There are coaches who win Champions League and all the major titles in Europe but get fired.
“I am sure people will be dreaming of Alex Ferguson or Jose Mourinho or Arsene Wenger or even Guardiola.
“But the reality is that the conditions to have such coaches in Ghana does not prevail.
“Whether these coaches want to come and work and stay in Ghana and all that.
“Also such coaches move with their own technical team wherever they go. They move with their own video analyst, their own physical instructor and all that.
“But for us here were prefer to have what we call the transfer of knowledge.
“If you want a high profile coach, what will be the motivation to come and work here in Ghana?”
