A 29-year-old man has died in police cells in Kumasi after he was allegedly brutalized by police personnel.
The man Ayerefo Kantinka, a casual laborer was arrested on Sunday and kept in the cells for three days without bail for alleged theft.
According to relatives of the deceased the police told them that the suspect was taken ill and rushed to the Komfo Anokye Hospital where he died. But they are disputing the police claim.
Police sources have confirmed that the suspect died in cells, but have given no details.
This is the second time a suspect has died in police custody at the Central Police Station in the Ashanti region.
The first incident occurred in May this year.
The family of the other suspect, Collins Okyere, also known as Nana Kwame Sarpong has asked the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate the matter.
