The Ghana Association of Certified Registered Anaesthetists has declared a strike action, effective Friday.
“Anaesthesia services for all forms of surgery have been withdrawn,” a statement from the association said, urging all members to comply.
“The Regional Chairpersons are entreated to ensure strict adherence to this very important exercise in their respective regions,” the statement said.
Reports say the association was embarking on the industrial action to protest a change of the anaesthesia curricula and a change of the name of their degree.
A letter to President Nana Akufo-Addo expressed concern about a name change from Certified Registered Anaesthetic (CRA) to Physician Assistant (PA).
The group raised concerns over their degree’s name changing to B.Sc. Physician Assistant – Anaesthesia from the existing B.Sc. Anaesthesia.
The association says it is compelled to proceed on a total withdrawal of services following the expiry of a notice sent to the President.
