Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP for Nkoranza North, Eric Amoateng is still in police custody a day after he was granted bail by an Accra circuit court.
The family says the court registrar is yet to sign Mr. Amoateng’s bail documents although the bail conditions have been satisfied fully.
Mr. Amoateng was granted a Ghȼ200, 000 bail with three sureties to justify by an Accra Circuit Court on Friday after he was charged with possessing forged document.
Joy News’ Kwakye Afreh Nuamah however, reports the former Parliamentarian is still in the cells at the Nima Divisional Police Command.
Mr Amoateng arrived in the country on Thursday, after serving a 10-year jail term in the US for illegal drug trafficking but was arrested by the Ghana Police at the Kotoka Airport for allegedly possessing a forged passport.
In a related development, former Director of Communications for the NPP, Nana Akomea has expressed surprise at the turn of events because according to him, as a convict, Mr. Amoateng did not need to have a passport to be extradited from the US to Ghana.
Speaking on Newfile on Joy FM Saturday, the former Okaikoi South MP advised that comprehensive investigations be conducted to establish the truth of the allegation.
“I don’t know if that story is true and if it’s true, I would like a thorough investigation to be done into that,” Nana Akomea stated.
Meanwhile, Mr. Eric Amoateng will reappear in court on August 26, 2014.
