The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) is to embark on an unannounced operation to evacuate all hawkers from around the Makola Market and the Central Business District.
Ali Baba Abature, Public Relations Officer, said the AMA in consultation with the office of the Chief of Defence Staff was mobilizing logistics to help to carry out the exercise successfully.
He noted that although the AMA had been able to put up a 4,000 capacity shopping mall for hawkers, it was unfortunate that hawkers were reluctant to occupy the mall since there were a lot of empty shops which were yet to be occupied.
He said hawkers at the Tema Station would also be affected.
