The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has revealed that all players and accredited officials of premier league sides have undergone the mandatory Covid-19 testing ahead of the new season.
The Ghana Premier League is scheduled to start on Saturday, November, 14 2020, with a match between former champions Accra Hearts of Oak and Aduana Stars at Dormaa.
As part of preparations towards the start of the league competition, the GFA announced last month it was beginning the process of testing players, coaching staff and officials of the 18 Premier League clubs.
According to the GFA, the testing of players and officials is a collaboration with the Association and the government’s Covid-19 task force to ensure that football is played in the safest possible way.
Speaking on Luv Fm’s “Monday Night Sports” show, the GFA’s Communication Director, Henry Asante Twum, announced that all players and officials have been tested.
“Government has assisted us and we have tested all 30 registered players and 15 officials of all the 18 premier league clubs. We are very grateful to government for this support and this process will not be a one-off thing, it will also go on as we go along,” he stated.
Henry Asante Twum also revealed that the government has completed the fumigation of all stadia available for use during the 2020/21 league competition.
“By kind courtesy of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Authority we have fumigated all the various league centres and it is something that will be done continuously,” he said.
The Ghana premier league is bouncing back this weekend after an eight-month break due to the ban on sporting activities amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
