Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama, who is also one of the aspiring candidates for the flagbearership race of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) last Sunday cruised delegates in nine constituencies to the plush Akosombo Volta Hotel to sell himself to them.
According to The Chronicle, the vice president called on the delegates not to look any further for the most suitable candidate among the aspirants because he is the most qualified to run the country now.
This is because according to him, he is the only candidate who has gone through apprenticeship under the able leadership of president Kufuor who is on record to have transformed the fortunes of the economy.
And having been able to graduate from his apprenticeship, he is now in the position to run the show effectively by continuing to build upon the foundation, which his mentor and leader, President Kufuor, now the Chairman of the African Union (AU) has laid.
Addressing the delegates from eight (8) constituencies including Tema East and West, Kpone Katamanso, Ashaiman, Ada, Ningo-Prampram, Sege and Shai Osudoku, Alhaji Mahama said he is prepared psychologically, mentally and physically for the task ahead of him.
Speaking to the delegates, the Vice President noted that he has spent about three years of the almost seven years of the reign of the NPP in power as acting president of the Republic, anytime President Kufuor traveled outside the country for investment opportunities.
The said its sources disclosed that Aliu Mahama further told them that apart from the experience he has acquired over the years as vice president, he was better placed to win all the votes in the three Northern regions when given the nod.
Vice President Aliu Mahama continued that having worked cordially with the gentle giant over the last seven years, he now knows the ins and outs of the castle as well as plans to further the course of development in the country, saying even if he was asked in the thick of the night or during lights-out period he still could locate where all the important documents pertaining to such programmes are kept.
