Ghana's Ambassador to the United States of America, Alima Mahama has been honoured at the Global Citizens’ Diplomacy Awards organized by the Sister Cities International in Washington DC.

The honour was in recognition of her contribution during the the period that she served as a member for the nurture and growth of the Sister Cities' relationship between Tamale and the city of Louisville in the USA.

The relationship which started in 1979 has brought several developmental projects to Tamale, including support for the health sector, education, cultural exchanges among others.

Madam Alima thanked the Sister Cities International for such an honour and promised to continue to champion and promote their activities in Ghana.

She commended the organisation's committee in Ghana for sustaining the relationship since 1979, adding that as an Ambassador, her role is not only to represent Ghana at the diplomatic stage but to also engage with such an impactful teams.

She promised to continue to encourage more cities in Ghana to be part of this network of global citizens.

Hajia Mahama was accompanied by the Northern Regional Minister, Shaibu Alhassan Shani who represented the citizens of the region.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister said the Northern Region is an ideal place for those who want to invest in agriculture.

He said the region has abundant land and the human resource to support any investor in the agriculture sector and urged them to take advantage. 

Mr Shani also appealed to those who want to invest in the education sector to consider the conducive atmosphere created by government and take advantage of the opportunity.

He thanked Sister Cities International for recognising the Ambassador for her role in promoting citizen diplomacy for the past twenty-five years.

He emphasised the need for more city relationships between cities across the world and districts in the Northern Region.
