Albert Nii Ayi Tagoe, Head of Finance and Investment, at the Ghana Commodity Exchange, emerged as the winner for the category of Authorship and Creative Writing at the prestigious 40 under 40 awards event held on 7th September 2024 at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel in Accra.
He is the author of the books “How to raise capital for your start-up business” and "Money Health"
The 8th Annual Awards ceremony was organised by Xodus Communications to identify, honour, and celebrate a cross-section of the nation’s most influential and accomplished young business leaders under the age of forty from a wide range of industries, who are committed to business growth, and professional excellence, and community service, and have risen through the ranks of their companies or industries at a relatively young age.
This Award is a testament to Albert’s extensive experience in the financial services industry and successfully translating his decade of experience in Financial Management to creatively write books that are impacting this generation in the areas of business and personal financing.
As an accomplished author, Albert has used his books for several presentations and training for students, entrepreneurs, business owners, and corporate professionals. His first book guides entrepreneurs on raising capital for businesses, using the word "CAPITAL" to structure its chapters, while his second book helps individuals achieve financial wellness, using the sentence, AM I WELL? to structure its chapters.
His writings induce creative and analytical thinking, helping entrepreneurs build effective investor pitches. Notable institutions for his training on capital raising, investor pitches, financial management, and financial wellness are Ashesi Entrepreneurship Center, Cargill Ghana, Oxford African Womens’ Leadership Institute, Westlion Co. Limited, Young Professionals Business Network, and University of Education, Winneba.
Albert's philanthropic endeavours are noteworthy. He has volunteered as a guest lecturer on the JOY FM Masterclass on capital raising strategies for businesses, impacting over 1,000 active listeners and a million viewers across the country and beyond, giving his books to some listeners as prizes for active participation.
He served as a guest judge for the national Graphic Tertiary Business Challenge in 2022 and 2023, donating books to all the finalists. He also participated as a special guest at the National Academy of Students Achievements Awards, donating over 30 books to award winners.
In 2024, he donated over 200 copies of his books to the School of Graduate Studies of the University of Education, Winneba during a seminar on entrepreneurship where he was the special guest of honour.
Albert served as a panellist at the 2nd Edition of the African Entrepreneurship Accelerator Summit, where his books served as the basis for sharing insights for start-up financing and investor pitches to over 300 participants.
He also served as a regular radio guest on the “Business Insider show” on Sunny FM, where details of his book served as the basis for discussions on business financing, investor pitches, and grant financing to the benefit of over 10,000 active listeners across the country and abroad.
Through the sales proceeds from his books, Albert has supported organising the “360 Enterprise Masterclass”, which will equip participants with essential soft skills for navigating to business, capital raising and entrepreneurial success.
He volunteered his services for mentorship and coaching to several university graduates and young professionals he has engaged in the line of his training and presentations.
In recognition of his outstanding financial leadership, Albert was named and awarded as part of the "Top 50 Influential CFOs in Ghana 2023”. The award was dubbed "Most Influential CFO in Ghana 2023. He was also awarded as part of the “Top 30 Public Sector Finance Leaders in Ghana 2022”, for outstanding Merits and achievements in Finance Leadership.
His impact on the industry and dedication to supporting entrepreneurs and young professionals made him a standout leader in his field.
Commenting on the latest award, Albert said he always holds the passion to inspire, serve and impact this generation with his experience through authorship and creative writing. He inspired the youth to start writing books at a very young age, especially in areas that are useful for national development.
He thanked the organisers for this special recognition and said he will forever hold this prestigious award dear to his heart.
Profile of Award winner
Albert Nii Ayi Tagoe is an award-winning finance professional and a chartered global management accountant. He is a senior management team member, and the Head of Finance and Investment at Ghana Commodity Exchange.
He holds an MBA in Finance with Distinction from Coventry University (UK) and a First-Class.
Honours degree in Bachelor of Business Administration (Accounting Option) from the Valley View University and a certification by the Ghana Stock Exchange for Investment and Securities.
Albert has played a pivotal role at GCX since its implementation in January 2018 and has supported in setting up a robust and dynamic finance and control unit for the business with his expertise in financial management and reporting, financial analysis, budgeting, treasury management, investment, internal and external audit, financial controls and taxation.
He currently leads the teams’ engagement with financial institutions to extend financing to smallholder farmers in Ghana under its’ Warehouse Receipt and Aggregation Financing programme where the commodities serve as collateral for the financial institutions and serve on financing and investment committees that provide financial advice and direction for the growth of the Exchange.
Before joining GCX, he worked for seven years with Stanbic Bank Ghana in credit risk management and banking operations, earning the Beyond Excellence Award in 2017.
