Former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan John Kwadwo Kyeremanten has placed third in the NPP Super Delegates Congress held on Saturday, August 26.
Mr. Kyeremanten polled 95 votes representing 10.82% of the total votes cast while his closest contender, Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong had 132 votes, representing 15.03%.
Out of the 16 regions in the country, the NPP's flagbearer hopeful did not win in a single region.
In his home region, Ashanti region, he polled 10 votes, while Dr. Bawumia had a landslide victory with 97 votes. Mr. Kennedy Agyapong came third with 6 votes.
He however qualifies to participate in the NPP's Presidential Primaries on November 4.
The Super Delegates Congress is being held to elect five presidential aspirants to contest the party’s primaries in November this year.
The five aspirants who secure the highest number of votes will go on to contest the primaries, where they will compete to become the NPP’s flagbearer for the 2024 general election.

Profile of Alan Kyeremanten
Mr. Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen was born on October 3, 1955, to the late Dr. Alexander Atta Yaw Kyerematen from Patasse, Kumasi and Victoria Kyerematen (née Welsing) from Elmina and Ejisu.
He attended Adisadel College in Cape Coast at a record age of nine years, and thereafter attended the prestigious Achimota School for his sixth form education.
He proceeded to the University of Ghana, Legon for a Bachelor's degree in Economics.
Mr. Kyerematen also holds a Law degree, LLB from the Ghana Law School at the same university where he qualified as a Barrister-at-Law.
He was called to the bar and is a practicing attorney-at-law in Ghana.
He is also a Hubert Humphrey Fellow of the School of Management at the University of Minnesota, U.S.A, having completed one-year management studies under the Fulbright Fellowship program at that institution.
In 1998, Alan Kyerematen was appointed by the UNDP as the first Regional Director of Enterprise Africa.
Between 1984 and 1990, he participated in and managed a number of private and public sector consulting assignments in Ghana, as a Principal Consultant and Head of Public Systems Management with the Management Development and Productivity Institute (MDPI).
Mr. Kyerematen currently serves as a trade advisor at the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and heads the African Trade Policy Centre (ATPC).
Mr. Kyerematen was appointed Ghana's Ambassador to the U.S when the NPP came into office in 2001.
In 2003, Alan Kyerematen was appointed as the Cabinet Minister with responsibility for Trade, Industry, and the President's Special Initiatives (PSI) by former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
Mr. Kyeremanten made an attempt at the leadership of the NPP in 2007, capturing 32.3% of votes cast. He was the first runner up to Nana Akufo-Addo who gained 47.96% of the votes.
In 2010 and 2014, he made other attempts for the flagbearership position of the party but placed second to Akufo-Addo who won the primaries.
He was subsequently appointed Minister for Trade and Industry in 2017 when Akufo-Addo won the general elections in 2016, till he resigned from his post in January 2023.
During his tenure, a comprehensive Ghana Trade Policy was launched as a major plank in Government's strategy for accelerating and sustaining economic growth and increasing incomes and employment.
He also negotiated a $45 million facility with the World Bank to promote small and medium enterprise development in Ghana.
Another major achievement of Mr, Kyerematen was to develop the Trade Ministry into a professional service organization with the Ministry being restructured into strategic business units with an efficient programme coordination and management system.
Additionally, as part of a government investment delegation, Alan Kyerematen was instrumental in the negotiation of the contract that led to the arrival of Kosmos Energy to Ghana to explore and discover oil in commercial quantities which generates large revenue inflows for the state annually.
He has also commissioned many factories under the One District, One Factory policy introduced by the NPP. He is married to Patricia Christabel Kyerematen. They are blessed with two children.
