President Akufo-Addo has pledged to take decisive action to alleviate the devastating effects of the severe dry season that has plagued the northern regions of Ghana.
Farmers in these areas have faced significant losses as their crops and overall farm output have been severely impacted by the ongoing drought.
Reports from the affected regions have painted a grim picture of the challenges faced by farmers, whose agricultural activities have been crippled by the harsh dry conditions.
During his visit to commission the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital on Thursday, August 15, President Akufo-Addo addressed the pressing issue, promising to implement measures that would provide relief to the struggling farmers.
"As I am in the region, it is important that I comment on a matter of considerable importance to the peoples of the northern regions of our country," the President stated.
"I am aware of the impact that the dry season has had on farm output. I want to assure you that the Government, in the next few days, will announce the measures to address the situation."
The NPP government had previously introduced the 'One Village, One Dam' initiative, which aimed to construct dams in northern Ghana to support farming during the dry season.
However, despite the construction of some dams, the current drought has impeded effective water storage, exacerbating the destruction of farm outputs.
President Akufo-Addo's assurance offers a glimmer of hope to the affected farmers as they await the government's forthcoming plans to combat the drought and support agricultural recovery in the northern regions.
