The Minister for Defence, Dominic Nitiwul, says President Akufo-Addo deserves special commendation for ensuring the security of Ghanaians by preventing terrorist attacks.
Ghana has largely been spared in a region where its neighbours have recorded such attacks.
Speaking during the debate on the State of the Nation Address, on Friday, Mr. Nitiwul said Ghanaians must appreciate the level of security being enjoyed.
“The entire West Africa, particularly the big nations are facing real security challenges when I say real – extreme real security challenges. I can state that the nation that has been spared is Ghana and so the President must be patted on his back…,” he said.
He pointed out that the President in his address explained the need to spend a lot of money to keep security at the borders for the protection of Ghanaians.
“Mr Speaker, 10 years ago, terrorism may not have been an issue to Ghana, Burkina Faso or even a few of the nations down south to West Africa, but today it is. If you cross the border to Burkina and the major road between Paga and Ouagadougou, you may find it difficult to get about 10 cars moving on that major road that used to have about 100, 000 cars moving because you do it at your own risk,” he cited.
