President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has made a $100,000 donation to the Ghana Rugby Football Union.
The gesture was made Wednesday, when the Ghana Rugby Women’s Sevens National Team and the Ghana Eagles paid a courtesy call on the President at Jubilee House, to present the trophies they won at the 2019 Rugby Africa Women’s Challenge.

After successfully banking in with four trophies, and as described by the Chairman of the Ghana National Rugby, Herbert Mensah, “as the most successful sporting team in Ghana over the last four years” President Akufo-Addo said this “means in my period as President, you’ve been the most successful team sports in Ghana. It makes you very special people to me”
Responding to some imminent request made by Herbert Mensah, to foster the inclusion of ordinary Ghanaian children to play Rugby, the President directed the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to consider making Ruby part of the GES curriculum in Basic schools.
He also asked the Minister of Youth and Sports to engage the Managers of the Rugby Team and the National Sports Authority to work together and allow the Rugby team train at the national sports stadiums as “it is a public facility that belongs to the people of Ghana.”
The President commended the team for the efforts it has been making that has “brought all this renowned success to our country “as it is encouraging that both men and the women are successful.
