President Nana Akufo-Addo says the construction of the new Oil and Gas Services Terminal is a realisation of a vision that cements Ghana’s stand as a beacon of economic resilience.
He said the Terminal was a critical gateway that offered a one-stop-shop supply of essential resources for offshore activities and would further strengthen the position of Ghana in the oil and gas sector operations.
President Akufo-Addo at the commissioning of the facility in the Port of Takoradi said the 31 Times Football Park Services Terminal was a “bold testament” to the economic progress made as a nation while positioning the country as a hub in the upstream business.
He said, “This critical investment in the sector affirms our commitment to enhance economic opportunities for all Ghanaians “.
The Terminal, a game changer in the activities and operations of the Port of Takoradi, began in October 2022 by the GPHA with funding from the government.
The $100,007,246.86 project was executed by China Harbour Engineering Company with GTYD Group Limited as the Consultants.
The project covered the reclamation of 20ha of sealand, 752, 045m3 dredging, ground improvement, storage yard and concrete roads, water supply, stuns, sewage, pipe network, power, and communication ducts.
The President said the upgrade of the Port would further advance competitiveness, bring more integration in the Sub-Region, and promote economic development.
Mr Kweku Ofori Asiamah, the Minister for Transport was grateful to the President for enabling the Ministry to undertake many infrastructure works within the various sectors under the Ministry.
He prayed that the new Terminal coupled with already existing facilities in the Port of Takoradi would shore up maritime business in the Region.
Mr Michael Luguje, the Director General of GPHA said the vision of transforming the Port from a traditional point of export had been achieved.
He said the Port of Takoradi had now become more competitive than ever with the ability to handle major cargo containers.
Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, the Western Regional Minister described the completion of the project as a remarkable achievement in the port operations and the quest for economic growth
He thanked the President for the enabling environment for players in the oil and gas sector to thrive.
The Western Regional Minister called for safe operations, efficiency, and environmental sustainability to be key as the Port grew to transform lives.
The Terminal had a Quay wall of 550 meters and a draft of 10 meters deep and came with a 200,000m² serviced land area for siting of oilfield operators, logistics service providers, operational offices, workshops, and storage facilities, among others
The project aimed to establish a world-class shore-based logistics platform within the port, featuring offshore supply vessel (OSV) berthing facilities and serviced waterfront land to support offshore oil and gas exploration and production operations.
