Leading Cement manufacturer, Ghacem Ltd. has donated 1000 bags of cement to support the construction of settlement Centres for the Akosombo Dam spillage victims.
Citi FM/Citi TV, is embarking on a campaign to collect relief items for the victims affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage. Ghacem Limited, touted as the nation builder which has been at the forefront of Ghana’s infrastructural development since the independence both commercially and through corporate social responsibility initiatives heeded to this call with the 1000 bags of cement estimated at Gh¢80,000.
Top Executives of the company including; the Commercial Director, Mr. Kwasi Kyere, the Financial Director, Mr. Gideon Atta and the Lead, Marketing & PR, Mr. Frank Antwi Agyapong, were present at the premises of Citi Fm/Citi Tv to hand over the donation to Management of the station to back the campaign of providing relief items to the flood victims. The team were received on arrival by Mr. Samuel Attah-Mensah, Managing Director Citi fm/Citi tv, Ms. Ogboe Adusu, the Deputy Administrator and were hosted live on the Citi Breakfast show by co-host, Nathan Quao.
Addressing the live studio presentation, Mr. Gideon Atta, the Financial Director, Ghacem Ltd. commended Citi Fm/Citi Tv for what he described as a laudable initiative of a commitment to alleviate the flood victims from this trauma they find themselves. “As they say radio gets results and we see it in action in this initiative. Ghacem is indeed proud to stand with you to bring some major relief to the people who have been displaced of their places of abode and lost their livelihood.
“This is what we can do as corporate Ghana and as patriots to present these bags to support the effort in providing shelter for our dear brothers and sisters in these affected areas”.
On his part, Mr. Kwasi Kyere, the Commercial Director of Ghacem said although the company already has its main corporate social responsibility (CSR) program; the Ghacem Cement Foundation (GCF) instituted in 2002 to support health and educational infrastructure in deprived communities and has since its inception donated about 700,000 bags estimated at Gh¢.53 million, the move to support the construction of settlement Centres for victims affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage is something it identified as a national disaster that deserves special attention. “We hope to partner Citi Fm/Citi Tv to ensure this worthy course becomes successful”.
Receiving the donation, Mr. Samuel Attah-Mensah, Managing Director Citi fm/Citi tv described the gesture as timely.
“Currently we are almost through with the first settlement Centre at Torkpo. 2nd settlement is now being done and we are at the Gable stage. The 3rd one is the Super Structure block work currently ongoing at Kpando. This Cement will as such go straight to the New Bakpa where we are constructing a market, school blocks, renovating a clinic and providing additional housing unit for the community.
“We therefore appreciate this gesture and thank you on behalf of those affected including we Ghanaians as well because so many farms which could have fed us have been completely washed away.
