Air Commodore Kwabena Kissiedu Manukure Atiemo officially assumed command of the Air Force Base Takoradi on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. His appointment follows a nine-month period during which the base awaited a new commander after the passing of the former Base Commander, Air Commodore Godfried Sackey Parker.
To mark his arrival, a Special Quarter Guard was mounted in his honour. This was followed by a briefing with officers at the officers’ briefing room and a durbar attended by all ranks and Defence Civilian Staff at the Ashley-Lassen hangar.
Welcoming the new Base Commander, Flying Group Commander, Group Captain S.Y. Agbenyefia, described the day as momentous for the base personnel, who had shown remarkable resilience and faith in the Almighty during the challenging period. She extended her gratitude to all personnel for their collective support during the trying times, emphasizing that their unity and strength had kept the base strong and stable.
Group Captain Agbenyefia also expressed her profound appreciation to the Officers, Airmen, and Defence Civilian Staff for their dedication and support during her tenure. She urged them to extend the same level of commitment to the new Base Commander, whom she described as a spirit-filled leader, teacher, and inspiration to all.
Addressing the durbar, Air Commodore Atiemo expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and clarified that, as Base Commander, he represents the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Vice Marshal Frederick Asare Kwasi Bekoe, and fully aligns with his vision for the base. He called on all personnel to rally behind him in working towards the realization of this vision.
He also took the opportunity to commend Group Captain Agbenyefia for her efforts in making Air Force Base Takoradi a formidable institution. Air Commodore Atiemo urged all personnel to maintain discipline at all levels and remain dedicated to serving the Ghana Armed Forces. He also encouraged them to participate in the special voting process while remaining focused on their military duties during the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.
In a symbolic gesture, Air Commodore Atiemo received the Cane of Authority, officially marking his new role as Base Commander. The event was attended by the Commanding Officer of the Supply Wing, Wing Commander Samuel Kwame Baah Banson; Acting Commanding Officer of the Administration Wing, Squadron Leader Abdul Aziz Sherif Mustapha; as well as other officers, airmen, and Defence Civilian Staff.
