Tain District Chief Executive nominee, Dr. Lucy Acheampong, says agriculture and education will be key areas she will prioritize in her quest to help develop the district if approved.
The educationist and the only female among the 12 Municipal and District chief executive nominees in the Bono Region, said she would rally the stakeholders around to buy into the bigger dream of President Akufo-Addo, for all-year farming and raise the standard of education in Tain.
"What we need at Tain is not different from President Akufo-Addo's vision to promote agriculture, planting for foods and jobs.
"I will take it upon myself with the stakeholders at Tain, come together and work as a team to make sure that farming is ensured throughout the year. So one district, one dam will be promoted for sustainable irrigation throughout the year," she told Joy News in Sunyani.
The appointment of Metropolitan, Municipal, District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) is the sole preserve of the President, and per Article 243 (1) of the 1992 Constitution, he announced the 260 MMDCEs in Ghana on September 19, 2021.
They would be confirmed after the prior approval of not less than two-thirds majority of members of the assembly present and voting at the meeting.
On education, she explained that "So many of the girls end their education after Junior High School. The situation must change. I will ensure that the Secondary schools in Tain are also uplifted. And as an educationist, I will ensure we have quality teachers and teaching and learning in the district".
According to her, education is the root of every development, and her vision will help raise the level of education in Tain.
Dr. Lucy Acheampong admitted her nomination by the President comes with opposition, but, when approved, she hopes to engage and win them to join her in the development of Tain with humility.
"When we went for the vetting, we were 15, and each had their own supporters. So definitely, when you are appointed, there might be opposition. But what I am going to do is to sit down one-on-one with them to let them know that we are from the same home with one stool. But when we come together and work as a team, we will be able to achieve our goal”.
She said this would be her priority even before she starts strategizing, and believes with humility and service, they will achieve a common goal.
She also said she would engage all other stakeholders, including the traditional leaders, to conscientize them that it will take all hands on deck to develop the district.
Meanwhile, out of the 12 districts in the Bono Region, only Iddrisu Oatarra (Dormaa Central Municipal), Emmanuel Kofi Agyeman (Dormaa East), and Kofi Adjei (Berekum East Municipal) were re-nominated.
The Sunyani East Municipal, that remained vacant since the appointment of the then DCE, Justina Owusu-Banahene, will be occupied by Mr. Ansu Kumi, a former Presiding Member of the Assembly when confirmed.
Other nominees in the Bono Region are Emmanuel Akone (Banda), Dominic Oppong (Berekum West), Francis Kwadwo Oppong (Dormaa West), Solomon Owusu (Jaman North), Andrews Bediako (Jaman South Municipal), Evans Kusi Boadum (Sunyani West), and Alex Oduro Damoah, (Wenchi Municipal).
In the Ahafo Region, the nominees are Frank Adusei Poku (Asunafo South) - the only new entrant in the region, Anthony Mensah (Asutifi North), Robert Dwomo Mensah (Asutifi South), Ernest Kwarteng (Tano North), and Collins Offinam-Takyi (Tano South).
