Agona District improves revenue generation

Internal revenue generation by the Agona District Assembly has improved this year as against last year, according to the District Chief Executive. Mr. Ben Mensah, the DCE said at the 6th session of the assembly at Agona Swedru on Tuesday that out of targeted revenue of 2.3 billion cedis, the assembly was able to collect 2.1 billion cedis as at September, representing 91 percent of the total revenue. He said the assembly was able to collect 1.6 billion cedis revenue for the whole of last year. Mr. Mensah commended the District Finance Officer, revenue collectors and assembly members for their hard work. He said the assembly has put aside ¢214,510.900.00 to start capital projects such as the construction of new staff flats. Mr. Mensah said 323 youth in the district have been employed under the National Youth Employment Programme. He expressed regret that some of the teaching assistants engaged under the programme have not been paid since February and gave the assurance that efforts were being made to get them paid. Mr. Mensah appealed to landlords and landladies who have converted kitchen, bathrooms and toilet facilities in their house into rooms for hiring to reinstate these facilities forthwith. The Presiding Member of the assembly, Mr. T. E. Ossam-Duodu, said the assembly in its long-term programme has decided to build one good Girls' Senior High School for the district to promote girl education. The assembly would also open a weekly market in all towns in the district to improve commercial activities and revenue generation. Source: GNA
