The Agona District Assembly has set up a taskforce to pull down buildings and structures that have been constructed in waterways to avoid disaster.
Mr Ben Mensah, District Chief Executive for Agona, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Swedru on Thursday, said the Taskforce would soon start work and warned developers to comply with building rules and regulations.
He said the Works Department of the Assembly would be adequately resourced and equipped while people with the requisite knowledge would be employed to ensure sanity in the construction of buildings and other structures.
Mr Mensah pointed out that the Statutory Planning Committee of the Assembly had abolished the system where the Public Works Department (PWD) Engineer signed building and temporary structure permits and plans.
He said the system had given room for the haphazard physical planning of especially Agona Swedru and said departments such as the PWD, Town and Country Planning, Parks and Gardens had been tasked to ensure that people abide by building regulations.
The DCE warned people to cooperate with the taskforce to avoid confrontations during the exercise.
Mr Mensah cautioned owners of shops and containers wrongly sited to remove or demolish them before the exercise.
He said the Agona District had qualified for Municipal status but there was the need to put in place structures and plans that would enhance approval.
The DCE cautioned government officials who had condoned and connived with traditional rulers to sell public lands to put an end to the practice.
