Agenda Ghana Movement, an NGO, has urged Christians and other citizens in Kumasi to help uphold the peace as the country heads to the 2024 polls.
According to the group, election-related violence stagnates development, hence the need to be avoided to maintain the peace of the nation.
As the 2024 general election draws nearer, efforts are being intensified to ensure peaceful polls in Ghana.
Heightened tensions have been mounting among the various political parties, particularly between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The founder of the organization, Josephine Osei Owusu said the initiative is geared towards educating the citizenry on the significance of acting responsibly before, during, and after the elections to foster peace.
She urged the various presidential and parliamentary candidates to be measured in their utterances as they continue to engage voters across the country.
"If any politician stands on their campaign platforms to deliver their messages, I strongly believe everything should be centered on peace, peace should be the priority," she noted.
Some religious leaders and chiefs who were present joined the campaign to promote peace ahead of the elections.
The Superintendent Minister of Amakom for the Methodist Church Ghana, Rev. Henry Ampaw Asiedu, along with other religious leaders, urged politicians to prioritise the peace of the nation.
He also implored the youth to desist from being used by some politicians to stoke violence during the election.
The Nkosoahene of the Abura Traditional Area, Charles Mends, also stated the critical importance of peace for the nation and urged the youth to avoid being manipulated by politicians to incite violence.
Meanwhile, concerns were also raised about the unending illegal mining activities in Ghana, prompting calls for immediate government action.
