The Agbeve Herbal Hospital has officially launched its Sowutuom branch in Accra, Wednesday.
This is to improve health care delivery in the catchment area and promote the use of herbal medicine.
Speaking on the theme: “Promoting excellence in herbal practice in Ghana,” the CEO of Agbeve Herbal Hospital, Alhaji Agbeve, said the hospital handles all kinds of diseases except mental ailments and HIV/AIDS.
He said the hospital has six different units including the pharmaceutical, physiotherapy, laboratory, scan, nutrition, and the gym units.
He therefore appealed to the government to permit registered herbal centers to join the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in order to promote better health care for the people in the country.
The Greater Accra Regional Minister and the guest speaker for the launch, Nii Armah Ashietey, on his part, said the government will ensure that herbal medicine finds its way into the hearts of the people in the country saying, “even before the introduction of orthodox medicine, our fore-fathers used herbal medicine in curing diseases.”
He therefore urged the media to promote the use of herbal medicines from well registered sources and avoid offering airtime to market fake and unregistered drugs. That he said will ensure better health care for a better Ghana.
In a speech delivered on behalf of the Minister of Health and the guest of honour for the occasion, Mr. Joseph Yieleh Chireh, by Mr. Samuel Boateng in a press briefing, urged all health workers at the hospital to give their best to promote better health delivery, with the hope that in years to come the country would be recognised as one of the best herbal medicine centers in Africa.
He said apart from public health, herbal medicine also helps in defining the future well-being of a country. He said the adoption of herbal medicine creates employment and also generates revenue for the country’s development.
Dignitaries who came to grace the occasion included the Greater Accra Regional Minister; Nii Armah Ashietey, the Minister of Health; and the Minister of Youth and Sports; Mr. Clement Kofi Humado.
Others were Dr. A. Wahab Adam; Ameer and Missionary-in-charge, Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Ghana, NDC National Chairman; Dr. Kwabena Adjei, and Hon. Shirley Ayokor Botswe, Traditional Chiefs, among others.
The National Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Dr. Kwabena Adjei, said health is life and does not discriminate between the NDC and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He said at a time like this, all hands must be joined together to improve better health care and make life worthy of living for all.
Dr. Kwabena Adjei said it takes hard work, determination, intensive training and research to build and sustain a healthy organisation failure which the organisation is likely to collapse.
He said the unique plan of the CEO of Agbeve Herbal Hospital, Mr. Agbeve, “has led to what we are witnessing today making the world a beautiful place to live.”
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Clement Kofi Humado, in addition, said he was thankful and pleased to be part of the unforgettable history of the health center saying, "Long live Agbeve Herbal Hospital; Long live Ghana."
