Deputy Head of Masloc Afia Akoto has been exempted as the third defendant in a ¢8 million defamation suit brought against Member of Parliament for Assin Central Kennedy Agyepong.
The exemption comes after Madam Akoto signed terms of settlement including a retraction and an apology.
“I write to sincerely and unreservedly retract wholly my comments about your client which led to my being made 3rd Defendant in the above-mentioned defamation suit.
“I admit that even though I did not originate the allegations of wrongdoing, I did reecho them on my facebook wall on 29th of June 2017 without first verifying what I now accept to be rather unfortunate claims and without basis,” her letter of apology which was intercepted by Myjoyonline.com read.
She has also promised not to repeat the allegation of bribery made against the CEO of the Ghana Chamber of bulk oil distributors, Senyo Hosi by Kennedy Agyepong on her facebook
The controversial MP had alleged that Mr. Hosi paid a whopping 1 million cedis bribe to Alfred Obeng head of Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation [BOST] Company to influence Mr. Obeng to reverse a contaminated fuel sale made to two companies.
Mr. Hosi vehemently denied paying any such money and cautioned Mr. Agyepong and Madam Akoto who published the same allegation on Facebook, to retract and apologize.
He consequently filed a defamation case against the MP, his company Kencity Media, and Afia Akoto.
Senyo Hosi has since exempted the third defendant from the suit after she apologized.
Myjoyonline.com has learnt that the MP has been slapped with a cost of ¢1,000 for submitting a late defence.
The plaintiff had requested for a default judgment after the 1st and 2nd defendants failed to file their defence within the mandatory period.
Following the award of cost, the substantive case is now set to begin against Kennedy Agyepong and his company Kencity Media.
