Ghana’s Black Stars trail group leaders, Angola, by five points, after only two games played in the 2025 AFCON qualifying series.
This is after Otto Addo’s side conceded yet another late goal to share the spoils in their 1-1 draw with minnows Niger on Monday.
The Black Stars boss, bemoaned his side’s poor defending and lack on concentration against Niger, but believes they can step it up in the remaining games.
“I’m disappointed we didn’t learn the lessons from the home defeat to Angola, and we need to do better, for sure,” he said.
“Surely qualification still in our own hands and we can do something about it. We will, however, have to win our remaining games,” he added.
The top two teams in the group are set to book qualification to the continent’s biggest competition, which will take place December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026.
Ghana currently sit in 3rd place, 2 points behind 2nd placed Sudan, who they take on next in October.
The Black Stars last failed to qualify for the AFCON back in 2004.
