Adum fire outbreak has been curtailed – Chief Fire Officer

The Chief Fire Officer (CFO) of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Daniella Ntow-Sarpong, has assured the public that the fire outbreak at Adum in the Central Business District of the Ashanti Region has been successfully contained.

She emphasised that there is no cause for alarm, as the situation remains under control.

“The fire has been confined, and everything is fine. We just have to maintain it and ensure that it doesn’t spread again. Our firemen are here with their appliances, and I believe in them. They are going to work to ensure that the fire they have curtailed does not spread again,” she stated.

In response to concerns that the fire tenders dispatched to the scene lacked water, Ntow-Sarpong dismissed the claims, explaining that firefighting often requires a continuous water supply due to the intensity of the work.

“With our fire tenders, when the job is very intense, within a twinkle of an eye, the water finishes. So, we can never say the water is finished. Which soldier goes to war without a gun? It is impossible."

“The press should help us and encourage people to know that we don’t come to fire scenes when there is no water in the fire tenders. Who even said it is only water we use to quench fire? We have many things we use in quenching fires,” she added.

The fire, which broke out in the early hours of Friday, March 21, 2025, has destroyed several stalls and makeshift structures, leaving many traders devastated.

Firefighters remain on the scene, working to prevent any potential re-ignition and ensure the safety of the area.
