In a shocking turn of events at the 2024 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), some of the nation’s brightest regional champions have seen their dreams dashed at the 1/8th stage.

Adisadel College, Kumasi High School, and Ghana SHS Tamale, all previous regional titleholders, failed to secure their spots in the quarter-finals, leaving their supporters heartbroken.

Adisadel College: Stripes faded in the face of fierce competition

Adisadel College, known for their bold stripes and even bolder quiz history, entered the national stage with high hopes after emerging as Cape Coast’s regional champions.

However, their journey was unexpectedly cut short. Despite their strong academic track record, the boys’ found themselves unable to withstand the fierce intellectual onslaught from their competitors Apam SHS in this round.

Many had pegged them as favorites to go far in the competition, but their early exit left their fans wondering what went wrong. This marks a significant upset in this year’s NSMQ, as Adisadel is a school synonymous with deep quiz tradition and past successes.

Kumasi High School: The lions roared, but fell

Kumasi High School, the pride of the Ashanti region, also struggled in their 1/8th stage contest. Despite a solid regional performance, their efforts were not enough to outmaneuver their fellow competitors.
Ghana SHS Tamale: Northern Powerhouse Hits a Wall

Ghana SHS Tamale, a regional powerhouse that represented the Northern Region, also faced an unexpected defeat at the 1/8th stage in a contest with Reigning champions Preserc Legon and Kofi Agyei SHTS.

Their exit came as a surprise to many, given the confidence they had shown throughout the earlier stages of the competition.

However, as it often goes in the NSMQ, the battle was fierce, and the Northern champs couldn’t hold their ground against their opponents, seeing their journey end much earlier than anticipated.

The Next Phase: Who will rise?

With these three heavyweights out of the running, the NSMQ quarter-finals will take on a new dynamic.

A total of 18 schools have already booked their spots in the next stage, and today’s contests will determine the final 9 schools to complete the quarter-final roster.

While the fall of Adisadel, Kumasi High, and Ghana SHS Tamale marks a tough break for their fan bases, the competition is only heating up.
