An aide to former President John Mahama has justified the acrimonious nature of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s national executive elections. 

Joyce Bawa Mogtari suggests that this is due to the attractiveness of the party to its folks. 

Speaking JoyNews’ Emefa Apawu at the Congress grounds - the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, Madam Mogtari said party members are determined to contribute to the victory of the party in 2024. 

According to her, after the elections today, everyone will put it behind them and focus on the collective objective of the NDC. 

She added that Ghanaians are looking up to the NDC to save the country from the “incompetence” of the current government. 

“There have been so many meetings and interactions and even yesterday there were conversations around it. 

“I think the most acrimonious is the one with the Youth Organiser contest and as you are aware, the former President met with Sammy Gyamfi and also our brother Pablo and I know one of the contestants has actually gone to court and secured an injunction against the swearing of the newly elected National Youth Organiser. 

“I am sure eventually cool heads will prevail and waters will calm down but I think all this is happening because the party is very very attractive and people have also realised ably abysmally and the phenomenal failure of the current government, Ghanaians need a certain political party, a party that stands for the aspirations of the masses and will meet their expectations,” she said. 

The NDC will elect its new executives today. 

Delegates of the party will converge at the Accra sports Stadium for the exercise. 

Some 9,200 delegates are expected to be from the 276 constituencies that will partake in the elections. 

However, ahead of that, there has been some internal bickering between the General Secretary, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia and the current Chairman, Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo who are keenly contesting the chairmanship position. 

Aside from that, the High Court at Amasaman, has granted an application for Interim Injunction against the swearing-in of the newly elected National Youth Organiser, George Opare Addo.
