Legal practitioner Ace Kojo Anan Ankomah has sued social media commentator, Kevin Ekow Baidoo Taylor, for allegedly defaming him.
Also joined to the suit is the defendant’s firm, Loud Silence Media with Mr Ankomah demanding ¢10 million as damages for dragging his name in the mud.
A writ by the plaintiff’s counsel Thaddeus Sory said, “damages in the sum of GHc10,000,000 for the defamatory statements published by the defendants on defendants’ Facebook page ‘With All Due Respect – Loud Silence Media’ on 23/07/19 and YouTube on 24/07/19, the subject matter of this suit.”
According to Mr Sory, the false ad malicious publications by Mr Baidoo Taylor “has injured his hard-won reputation into hatred, ridicule, obloquy, discredit, contempt, vilification, reproach” which has caused Mr Anan Ankomah “great distress and emotional trauma.”
The lawyer says Mr Baidoo Taylor and his company are pursuing such a course of action against the plaintiff because they believe that damages to be paid in publishing the defamatory matters about Mr Anan Ankomah would be outweighed by the profit that they stand to make in defaming him.
Mr Kevin Taylor
Mr Sory believes unless Mr Taylor is restrained by the High Court, he will continue to publish the “defamatory words complained of and more.”
Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has filed a formal complaint with the New York Times, over an attempt by one of its employees Marisa Schwartz Taylor and her husband, to damage the reputation of President Akufo-Addo.
A letter addressed to the Africa Editor of the New York Times, Laurie Goodstein, accused Mrs Taylor a female photojournalist working with the paper, and her Ghanaian husband, Kevin Taylor, of producing a series of video documentaries to peddle falsehood against the President and members of his government.
Kevin Taylor, through his productions company, 'Loud Silence', has been releasing weekly video documentaries dubbed ‘With All Due Respect’ on controversial issues which are then circulated on social media platforms.
