The Africa Center for Digital Transformation (ACDT) cautioned banks, savings and loans institutions, and rural banks in Ghana about an increased risk of cybercrime following a recent global tech failure.

In a statement, signed by the Executive Director, Kwasi Atuahene noted that the faulty software update from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike led to widespread system failures, impacting numerous sectors, including banking, aviation, and healthcare, globally.

In the wake of this incident, ACDT has cautioned Ghanaian financial institutions about a fake CrowdStrike hotfix update circulating online.

To mitigate the impact of the recent global IT outage and enhance their resilience against future incidents, ACDT recommends that Ghanaian banks activate backup systems and redundancies.

Among others, ACDT continuously monitors IT systems for any anomalies or security threats that could arise during the outage and ensure cybersecurity measures remain robust and operational to prevent exploitation by malicious actors.

By taking these proactive measures, banks in Ghana can mitigate the impact of the outage, maintain customer trust, and improve their preparedness for future incidents.
