If you thought that the horrors of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital was over due to the recent media searchlight on that hitherto neglected institution then you must think again. The corn dough stealing syndicates and cannabis ‘Lord,’ Zion, a.k.a. ‘Aganjamania’ have been at their best as the country’s health ‘gurus’ battle to find a lasting solution to the myriad of problems facing the aging Mental Hospital.
A shoemaker in front of the Hospital popularly called Zion; with ‘Aganjermania’ embossed on his shoemaking shop was caught with three polythene bags of cannabis, aka ‘Abonsam tawa’ a few days ago.
Zion has been doing brisk narcotic business in front of the hospital under the guise of being a shoemaker; he peddles drugs at subsidised prices for patients of the hospital who have made up their minds to continue their bad habits whilst undergoing treatment. Some patients do not mend their shoes with Zion for mending sake but rather they know how easy it is to get access to other ‘things’ from Zion.
Luck however, did not smile on Zion’s part last week when Yakubu of the Environmental Division of the Hospital caught him with the drugs. Yakubu then burnt the cannabis in front of all the workers present at the time.
The corn dough stealing syndicates have always worked mysteriously within the hospital. It is easy to see a bag full of corn dough walking without any human being accompanying it. The corn dough on its own can climb a wall and walk about fifty meters without any human assistance.
It is after that distance that you see a human being pop up and within a split second pick it up and disappear into the busy streets. On this occasion a passer-by was shocked to see a bag of corn dough walking comfortably with the assistance of a rope tied at one end.
“I was shocked to see that, so I decided to follow that mysterious corn dough, then I saw it climbing the wall without any human assistance so I move briskly to the other side of the wall only to see it fall off from the wall into the hands of an already alert guy. When he was briskly walking away with the corn dough I asked him “so Mr Man with all these media searchlight on this Hospital, you are still going on with this illicit stealing business? I will report you to the authorities” Asamoah Boateng an eye witness told the New Crusading Guide.
When the New Crusading Guide checked with the Hospital authorities, it was confirmed that the corn dough syndicate had performed its magic again and that the authorities were investigating to unmask the faces of the kitchen staffs who connive with some patients to steal corn dough meant morning porridge for the patients.
Also, it has come to the notice of the New Crusading Guide that bread was not serve to the patients for three days due to the unavailability of flour, the same flour that was sold to our team by kitchen staff during investigation. Accra Psychiatric Hospital is more alert than ever. The New Crusading Guide has also picked up signals that one of the patients mercilessly beat up one of the porters who also served as security man due to the lack of security men for the Hospital.
Again, a top hospital staff has hinted the New Crusading Guide that, Mr Carter, mentioned in our earlier story as a nurse involved in drug peddling is rather an orderly, working with the hospital.
Stay tuned.
