Chancellor of the Anglican University College of Technology (Angu.U.Tech) Most Rev. Prof. Daniel Yinkah-Sarfo is asking government’s support for private tertiary institutions to reduce intake burden of free SHS graduates.
He said assistance can take the forms of transportation and infrastructure.
“Students from the free SHS are coming in their numbers, so government should assist us so that we can also take some of them and equip them,” he said.
He revealed that staff arrears have become an albatross around their neck as many institutions find it hard to pay salaries of faculty members.
“They can assist with some funds to pay our lecturers. Lecturers salaries have become a huge burden,” he noted.
Speaking as part of activities to unveil Anglican University College of Technology’s Kumasi campus, Prof. Yinkah-Sarfo urged government to extend charter status to other deserving mission universities.
“I think this charter can be extended to all other mission universities.
President of Angu.U.Tech, Dr. Lord Emmanuel Asamoah entreated members of the Anglican Church to patronize the institution.
“The Anglican Church has now joined other religious organisations to promote tertiary education in the country. When you establish something, you have a duty to make sure it succeeds.
“We call on all members of the Anglican Church to play a role in selling the institution, especially its programme to a wider public so they’ll see the university as the first point of call when it comes to enrollment of students,” he appealed.
The Kumasi campus situated at St Anne Anglican Church will offer courses from business and finance to Physician Assistantship.
